Did button battery products encounter Waterloo at TEMU in the United States? The key points for improvement are here!
ATA TESTING| 2026-04-22| Back to list

Recently, a large number of cross-border sellers selling button battery products on TEMU's US site have encountered a tricky problem - their products have been forced to be taken down or intercepted due to a lack of compliant GCC certification (GCC certificate UL 4200A test report 16CFR 1263 standard compliance). What is even more worrying is that a large number of samples submitted for inspection have been reported as "unqualified", and the focus of the problem is almost on the design defects of the battery compartment.

Core issue: Battery compartment becomes a 'disaster area'

The primary non-conforming item exposed in this test is the non compliant anti child opening performance of the battery compartment! According to the mandatory requirements of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) (16 CFR 1263), packaging for button or coin batteries, as well as battery compartments containing such batteries, must have effective child proof design to strictly control the risk of fatal injury caused by accidental ingestion of batteries by children.

Key rectification: two-step opening or screw fixation!

How to ensure that the battery compartment is qualified? The most important thing is:

  1. Must have a "two-step operation" design: opening the battery compartment cover requires at least two independent, continuous actions (such as pressing while sliding, or pressing a buckle first and then sliding, etc.). Single actions (such as simple pushing and pulling, direct pressing) are absolutely prohibited!
  2. Better option: Physical screw fixation: Directly installing micro screws on the battery compartment cover for fixation is currently widely considered to be a solution that is easier to meet standards and more reliable. Screw fixation is equivalent to setting up a sturdy physical barrier.

To avoid your product being judged as unqualified during the testing process and wasting valuable shelf time, please be sure to strictly verify the battery compartment design before sending samples for GCC certification testing!

You can quickly self check:

  • Is it easy to open the battery compartment cover with just one action? If 'yes', it must be redesigned immediately!
  • Has a reliable "two-step opening" structure been adopted? Does the operation process really require two different actions and cannot be completed in one step?
  • Should we prioritize simpler and more direct screw fixing solutions? (Strongly recommended)!

The safety supervision of button battery products in the US market will only become increasingly strict, and GCC certification has become an essential entry threshold for the TEMU platform. Ensuring compliant design of battery compartments is not only a necessary means of responding to inspections, but also a core guarantee for avoiding product liability risks and winning buyer trust. Don't let a small design flaw in the battery compartment hinder your cross-border journey! Product rectification and certification are the key to achieving stability and long-term success.
